When trials come, I can trust God and release my fear.
The Upper Room Devotional 25th September 2024 Message
Jesus told [Jairus], “Don’t be afraid; just believe.” – Mark 5:36 (NIV)
The waiting room was half full that morning. Many people appeared to be on edge, including me. My symptoms indicated the possibility of a serious diagnosis. I wanted to be emotionally prepared to hear what the doctor might say. As I started to pray, the story of Jairus came to mind.
In Mark 5, Jesus was met by a synagogue leader named Jairus, who begged him to come and place his hands on his daughter, who was near death. On the way to his house, messengers arrived saying his daughter was dead, but Jesus said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”
Fear can easily overwhelm us when we are faced with dire news. I decided not to let fear control my thoughts and feelings and was determined to give this situation to God. I would trust that God was with me, whatever happened.
Our best response to fear is to trust the God who loves us. When we trust, we fix our eyes on Jesus rather than our circumstances. Whether or not our prayers are answered in the way that we hoped, we can choose to follow Jesus’ command to Jairus: “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”
Today’s Prayer
